Plastic Surgery Dove Tail Closure
For two years Dr. Tzikas was an associate of the late hair restoration pioneer Dr. C.P. Chambers. Dr. Tzikas has incorporated some aspects of the procedure his friend had developed and added to them with the same innovative spirit he uses in all of his procedures. The "Plastic Surgery Dove Tail Closure" developed by Dr. Tzikas is virtually unmatched in hair restoration for its ability to leave an almost scar free donor area (area in the back of the head where hair is removed for implantation). This concern for donor scarring unfortunately is neglected by too many doctors who perform these procedures.
Hair Restoration Procedure
Dr. Tzikas has created unique shapes of cutting blades and needles for the recipient incisions. These shapes are based on the size and depth of the individual follicles. This differs from patient to patient allowing for the perfect fit of graft to recipient hole and enabling post operative healing to be quicker and less noticeable.
Our routine hair restoration technique involves the placement of at least 1,000 to 2,000 follicular unit grafts (one to four hairs) and most of our patients will require at least two surgical procedures in order to be satisfied with their hair restoration result. A follicular unit is the natural pattern of growth of hairs in the scalp in clusters or groupings. Magnification is used exclusively during the dissecting stage of the procedure with every graft being prepared in a meticulous fashion and therefore providing the most natural results while preserving as much of the donor hair as possible. The hairline design is critical in achieving the most natural results. The aesthetics of the face are evaluated and the new hairline is created in an irregular pattern using only follicular unit micrografts in order to achieve a soft transition from the forehead to the hairline. Without this, the result would be an abrupt hairline which would be less than ideal.
