Palm Beach BOTOX® Cosmetic, Radiesse™, and Other Injectable Treatments

Fine lines and wrinkles may cause you to frown, which will only produce more wrinkles. If you want to break this cycle and you live in the Palm Beach region, the BOTOX® treatments, the Radiesse™ injections, and the other dermal fillers offered at the practice of facial plastic surgeon Thomas L. Tzikas, M.D., P.A., can help you! Each injectable treatment administered by Dr. Tzikas has unique qualities to assist you in breaking the "wrinkle cycle."

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX ® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, in forehead lines, and around the crow's feet in people from 18 to 65 years of age.

Treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic consists of a few tiny injections and takes about 10 to 20 minutes to complete. Within days there is a noticeable improvement in those persistent lines and wrinkles. Results may vary, but the typical BOTOX® treatment lasts about three to six months.

BOTOX ® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. The BOTOX® solution temporarily paralyzes facial nerves, reducing the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines between the brows, laugh lines around the eyes, and creases in forehead.

Patients in the Palm Beach area should be aware that BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Although he uses approved injectable dermal fillers for volume enhancement, Dr. Tzikas warns patients to avoid treatments with other products that claim to paralyze muscles. If it is not BOTOX® Cosmetic; it is not FDA approved and it may not be safe.

If you are a patient in the Palm Beach area interested in BOTOX® Cosmetic, contact the practice of Dr. Thomas L. Tzikas today for more information and to learn how you can get a free consultation.

Injectable Fillers: Radiesse™, Restylane®, Hylaform®, and Others

Dr. Tzikas has gained national recognition as an excellent injector of dermal filler materials due to his many years of experience in developing his lipografting procedure. Today there are many quick and easy types of volume enhancing products that are utilized to instantly reduce visible lines and wrinkles including nasolabial lines, marionette lines, nasal deformities, chin and cheek creases, hollows under eyes, and lip lines. The injectable fillers can also be used for lip augmentation. Currently we can use a multitude of fillers including: Radiesse ™ (Formerly Radiance™ FN), Restylane®, Hylaform®, Cosmoplast™, and Cosmoderm™

At our facial plastic surgery practice serving the Palm Beach area, treatments with Radiesse™ and the other injectables fillers usually take under 30 minutes and require little downtime after. It is generally safer to under-inject than to over-inject no matter which product is used, therefore there is a possibility that you will be coming in again to "complete" your desired look.

Radiesse™ (Formerly Radiance™ FN)

Developed with safety and longevity in mind, Radiesse™ is a new generation injectable filler that offers superior versatility for both cosmetic and reconstructive use without surgery.

What sets Radiesse™ apart from other dermal fillers is its durability, longevity, and versatility. The unique composition of Radiesse™ provides immediate visual improvement common with other fillers, along with the benefit of long-lasting results. Radiesse™ is made of very tiny, smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. The microspheres (particles) form a scaffold through which your body's own collagen grows, producing the desired long-term effect. The results pf Radiesse™ may last between one to two years. Radiesse™ is an ideal filler for deep creases and folds.

With collagen-generating properties, Radiesse™ not only fills in wrinkles, but it also stimulates development of new tissue. This trait of the filler removes the need for multiple injections over a span of a few weeks or months, allowing Palm Beach area Radiesse™ patients to maintain longer optimal results without numerous return trips for additional injections.

Using his expertise as a facial plastic surgeon, Thomas L. Tzikas, M.D., P.A., has been instrumental in developing the protocol for injection of Radiesse™ for cosmetic soft tissue augmentation. Dr. Tzikas outlined his Radiesse™ findings in an article that has been published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery.

Patients in the Palm Beach region should trust their Radiesse™ treatment to a facial plastic surgeon who was key in the creation of its injection protocol. For a free consultation from an expert in the technique, contact Dr. Thomas L. Tzikas today!

Restylane®

Restylane® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds. With a highly favorable safety profile, Restylane® is composed of non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (a substance found naturally in the human body). Restylane® is fully biocompatible. There is limited risk of animal-based disease transmission or development of allergic reactions to animal proteins, although no allergy testing is required before use.

Restylane® maintains its shape using the body's own moisture. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is hydrophilic or "water loving." As hyaluronic acid gradually degrades, each molecule binds to more water and over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. This ability of hyaluronic acid to bind to water is what helps provide long-lasting results.

Hylaform®

Hylaform® is a new FDA approved dermal (skin) filler made from a highly purified form of hyaluronic acid that mimics the effects of natural hyaluronic acid. When injected just below the surface of the skin, Hylaform® adds volume to the skin, smoothing unwanted lines and wrinkles.

Cosmoplast™ and Cosmoderm™

Cosmoplast™ and Cosmoderm™ are the only FDA approved commercially available dermal fillers that contain natural human collagen. Unlike Radiesse™, Restylane™, and other dermal fillers, Cosmoderm™ and Cosmoplast™ do not require a pretreatment skin test, making them the first same-day, single-visit dermal fillers approved in the United States. This natural human collagen has been purified from dermal tissue grown under controlled laboratory conditions. CosmoPlast™ is injected just below the surface of the skin, filling in unwanted lines and wrinkles and adding definition to the lip border. For acne scars, Cosmoderm™ and Cosmoplast™ offer a temporary leveling to make the skin appear smooth.

Silikon 1000®

Silikon 1000® is an FDA approved, ultra pure medical grade liquid silicone designed for injection into the eye to treat retinal detachment. The use of liquid silicone off label as an injectable filler material for facial augmentation is widely accepted by many facial plastic surgeons and dermatologists using the microdroplet technique of injection. The major advantages of liquid silicone are its permanence and the smoothness in which it can augment fine lines and wrinkles when injected properly.

Microdroplets of liquid silicone are injected under the skin at multiple points (the microdroplet serial-puncture technique) with a slender, sterile needle. Because liquid silicone is chemically inert, it remains a liquid after injection and is not altered or changed by the body. Over a period of months, microdroplets of silicone stimulate skin cells (known as fibroblasts) to produce new collagen around each microdroplet. Once a microdroplet is surrounded, collagen production stops. Through repeated injections over several months the combination of silicone microdroplets and new collagen gradually fills depressions. Slight swelling may be seen immediately after injection, giving the appearance of instant improvement; however, this swelling subsides in several days.

Microdroplet liquid silicone injections build soft-tissue by encouraging the production of new collagen, the skin’s natural structural protein. Silicone injections are used primarily to fill depressions such as wrinkles and certain acne and chicken pox scars. They can also be used to enhance the natural contours of areas such as lips and cheekbones, and to treat contour defects that result from heredity, surgery, trauma or aging.

Dr. Tzikas has been Injecting Silikon 1000® since 2004 and has treated thousands of patients safely with this product.

Dermal Implants: Zyplast® and Zyderm®

Dermal implants are offered for patients in the Palm Beach area who need more than Radiesse™ or other injectable fillers. Zyderm® and Zyplast® implants are composed of highly purified bovine dermal collagen that is dispersed in phosphate buffered physiological saline containing 0.3 percent lidocaine. Zyplast® and Zyderm® implants are indicated for the correction of contour deformities of the dermis in non-weight bearing areas. These implants have been employed successfully in many areas of the body to correct distensible acne scars; atrophy from disease or trauma; glabellar frown lines; nasolabial folds; rhinoplasty, skin graft or other surgically-induced irregularities; and other soft tissue defects. Because the implants are comprised of bovine collagen not human collagen, allergy tests are required.

ArteFill®

ArteFill® is the first FDA-approved non-resorbable wrinkle filler for the correction of smile lines. ArteFill® is a dual-acting injectable wrinkle filler. The secret is in its patented formula, which contains 20% ArteFill® Precision-Filtered Microspheres™ (made of PMMA, the same material used for dozens of medical implants over the last 50 years) and 80% ArteFill® Purified Bovine Collagen™ gel with lidocaine, an anesthetic. First, ArteFill® visibly corrects the wrinkle. Then the microspheres provide the permanent support your skin needs to correct the wrinkle and prevent further wrinkling. Multiple injections of ArteFill® are necessary for a long term full correction as the Bovine Collagen is absorbed within 4 to 6 weeks after injection. Where the results of temporary fillers end, the enduring benefits of ArteFill® continue. Because ArteFill® utilizes Bovine Collagen as a carrier medium, allergy testing is required 1 month prior to injection with this product.

Juvéderm™

Juvéderm™ is the “next generation” of FDA approved dermal fillers. Juvéderm™ provides a smooth, long-lasting correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Dermal fillers are used to restore volume and fullness to the skin, giving a healthy, youthful appearance. Juvéderm™ contains the highest concentration of non-animal, cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any dermal filler currently available. It is currently the only approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in patients of color. Juvéderm™ is developed using the proprietary Hylacross technology, a technologically advanced manufacturing process that results in a malleable, smooth gel that flows easily into the skin and creates a smooth, natural look and feel. All other currently approved hyaluronic acid dermal fillers utilize a gel particle suspension formulation. These gel particles can be seen under magnification as opposed to the smooth formulation used in Juvéderm™. Juvéderm™ provides optimal results with a single treatment in the majority of patients and delivers sustained results for six months or longer.
